Another Kahn Wedding

Jonathan & Summer Kahn

This past January our family and friends gathered for the wedding ceremony of my brother Jonathan and his fiance Summer on Lake Iola near Dade City. I had the honor of being in the wedding, but that didn’t stop me from bringing my Pentax K1000 (with Ilford Delta 400) and Mamiya C330 (with Kodak Tri-X 400) along for the weekend. The Pentax was our late grandfather’s camera and I thought he’d be proud to know that it is still capturing priceless pictures of our family.

Now for a bit of film nerdiness.

I have not shot many rolls of black and white film, and I had never shot Delta 400 before this wedding and had not shot Tri-X on 120 format before. I struggled at times to get the exposure right especially with the Tri-X on the Mamiya. This surprised me because I was expecting the Delta 400 to be the less forgiving film stock, but I was happy with the 35mm pictures I took with it. On another note, I’m not sure if the Tri-X was old (I bought the single roll online), if it had been exposed to heat, or if the film lab didn’t develop it quite right but the scans had splotches of liquid on them. The film lab offered to photoshop them out but I said not to bother because I honestly kind of liked the character that the imperfections brought to the photos.

I hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took from their wedding below. As always, If anyone has any questions (or tips) regarding shooting and exposing black and white film I’d love to hear them!
